Key West depending on the year can be streamyx form peaceful Island with fishing, diving, and boating with good food everywhere or it can be a Spring Break haven where students around the country come for a world of crazy nights by the ocean where the bars seem to never close and a wet t-shirt contest is available every night. I have had the opportunity to enjoy both scenes and it seems like they are different vacations completely.
Let's start of with a casual weekend and then mention the craziness later on. I highly recommend the Southernmost setup streamyx connection on Duval Street which is the most active street in the Keys. I highly recommend renting a scooter to get around town with; while not necessary as everything is a short walk it's entertaining to zip around the town in the open air. For a good day of fishing I recommend Mean Green Charters they have a variety of different options that include 1/2, and full day trips. They provide everything except your food and Capt. Jake Perry is very helpful. You could also rent a boat that are vastly available and are in different sizes. Also an exciting afternoon is zipping around the island on a couple of Jet Skis.
Key West is also known to antiquers to provide a good avenue of shops for classic Florida furniture with a Spanish influence. Of course with all of this there is nothing better than waking up and just lazily walking down the beach with a good book and enjoy the breeze and the crystal clear ocean water that lays ahead of you.
And after that long day at the beach it is a good idea to check out the Happy Hour provided along lines of Duval Tmbill Tm Net My where the options are endless starting at the World Famous Hog's Breath Saloon skipping across Fat Tuesday and finally crashing at the Green Parrot but of course getting up for one more at Kevin's Irish Bar.
Of course these are the same bars that get slammed during Spring Break and the place is crazy. Drinking in the streets is available to all and live music is everywhere. And their will always be a wet t-shirt contest at 12:00 in the back of Rum Runners on Duval Street. The beaches will be littered with co-eds and life is good.
